Nashik: In the backdrop of upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik, Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Friday appealed authorities to make efforts so that the city, including the Godavari river, becomes clean and beautiful and creates a different identity at the international level.
Speaking at a programme organised to give the ‘Rashtra Jivan Puraskar’ to Padma Shri Mahesh Sharma, a water and environment expert, here, he said, “The rivers of the country are the centre of spiritual inspiration and cultural upliftment. It is the responsibility of all of us to keep them pollution-free and clean.”
He further said, “If rivers are not conserved, life will be difficult. Experts say that water will be the cause of the Third World War. The world’s population is increasing.
Therefore, this will be a matter of concern in the future. Pollution in Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities is a warning sign for us. … Therefore, it is necessary for everyone to make a concerted effort to make the rivers pollution-free.”
Radhakrishnan also suggested that all the rivers in the country should be linked, saying that river linking project should be implemented.
Earlier, the Governor visited Kalaram Temple here.
