Chandigarh, Punjab’s Finance and Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today outlined aggressive steps to recover long-pending excise dues from the previous Akali-BJP and Congress regimes.
The state has already recovered Rs 1.85 crore this fiscal year, with plans to auction 27 properties worth Rs 20.31 crore to further boost revenue, the minister said.
Speaking to the media, Cheema revealed that the auction process is underway, with 14 properties in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, and Mansa districts scheduled for sale in early September.
The list includes six properties valued at Rs 5.4 crore on September 4, four worth Rs 4.89 crore on September 8, and another four valued at Rs 1.99 crore on September 11. Eight more properties will be auctioned later in the month.
The minister emphasised that the Excise Department aims to resolve 67 pending cases this year, reinforcing the Aam Aadmi Party government’s commitment to fiscal discipline. Cheema criticised past governments for allowing dues to accumulate, contrasting this with the current administration’s timely collection of license fees under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The recovery drive underscores Punjab’s focus on transparent governance and financial accountability, he added.
