New Delhi, Sep 22 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura today, during which he will launch a slew of developmental and infrastructure projects valued over Rs5,100 crore.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a number of key initiatives in Itanagar, including two large-scale hydropower projects aimed at bolstering the region’s energy infrastructure and accelerating socio-economic growth.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister will proceed to Tripura, where he is slated to inaugurate development works at the revered Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur.
A senior official confirmed that the Prime Minister will virtually initiate two major hydropower projects with a combined generation capacity of 426 MW.
These projects—being developed by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited—are expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the region’s sustainable energy goals.
The projects in question are the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW).
The two ventures are being undertaken by NEEPCO in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, at a cumulative estimated cost of over Rs3,700 crore.
The Heo project, comprising three units of 80 MW each, is situated in the Siyom sub-basin of Shi Yomi district and is projected to generate approximately 1,000 million units (MUs) annually.
Meanwhile, the Tato-I project, with three units of 62 MW, is expected to produce nearly 803 MUs annually.
“These initiatives are set to harness the untapped hydro potential of the region and will make a significant contribution to India’s clean energy goals.
Furthermore, they are expected to generate employment opportunities and catalyse regional development,” the official added.
NEEPCO, which has been a cornerstone of power generation in the North Eastern region since its inception in 1976, holds the status of a Mini Ratna Category-I Public Sector Enterprise.
