Bokaro, In a technological breakthrough, SAIL–Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has successfully developed a special grade non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel under IS:18316 standards for use in electric vehicles and electric motors.

According to Manikant Dhan, Chief of Communications, BSL, the plant achieved successful trial production of 1,100 tonnes, marking a milestone as only a few countries possess the capability to produce such advanced steel. Until now, India largely depended on imports for this grade.

The steel, produced through a complex process involving precise carbon control and high silicon content, ensures high magnetic efficiency and ductility, making it ideal for electric motors, generators, and hybrid vehicles.

Customers have expressed complete satisfaction with its quality and performance during initial trials.

Officials said the innovation strengthens BSL’s role as a reliable domestic supplier and aligns with the goals of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, contributing to India’s industrial and economic self-reliance.
