New Delhi, IT Industry body National Association of Software and Service Companies (NAASCOM) today said H-1B visa fee hike by US will affect Indian IT companies and the timing of implementation is also a concern.

Nasscom said ” While we are reviewing the finer details of the order, adjustments of this nature can potentially have ripple effect on America’s innovation ecosystem and the wider job economy.”

The IT Industry body posted the statement on X.

On September 19, the White House announced a new proclamation introducing a USD 100,000 annual fee on H-1B visa applications.

The proclamation was “Restriction on entry of certain nonimmigrant workers.”

Nasscom said “It will also impact Indian nationals that are working on H-1B visas for Global and Indian companies. India’s technology services also will be impacted as business continuity will be disrupted for onshore projects which may require adjustments. ”

“However, it is also important to note that India and India centric companies have been steadily reducing their reliance on these visas through increased local hiring in recent years.”

These companies also follow all necessary and governance compliance in the US for H-1B processes, pay the prevailing wages and contribute to the local economy and innovation partnership with academia and startups.

Showing concerns on the implementation timings of H-1B fee hike, the statement said ” The timeline for implementation (anyone entering the US after 12:01 am , September 21) is also a concern. A one day deadline creates considerable uncertainty for businesses, professionals and students across the world. Policy changes of this scale are best introduced with adequate transition periods, allowing organizations and individuals to plan effectively and minimize disruption.”

Nasscom has consistently emphasized that high-skill talent is vital to driving innovation, competitiveness and growth for America’s economy. This is critical at a time when advances in AI, and other frontier tech ologies set to drive global competitiveness.

High-skill talent will remain central to sustaining America’s innovation and leadership and long-term economic strength.

“We will continue to monitor developments closely, engage with industry stakeholders on the potential implications, and seek further clarity on the discretionary waiver process, to be granted by secreatry of DHS.” said Nasscom
NAASCOM, founded in 1988 is an Indian non-governmental trade association and advocacy group that primarily serves the Indian Technology industry.
