After 45 days long spiritual gathering hosted at Prayagraj, the Sanatan Hindus’ grandest festival of all times has come to an end today on Mahashivaratri Day, February 26, 2025. This Maha Kumbh that has been claimed to have come after 144 years for its rare celestial event will be remembered for many things. Who would have ever imagined that a small town of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh the total population of which is merely 14 lakh will one day host more than 70 crore devotees in a span of 45 days. But, now it is a reality! 

For the last almost one and a half months, the Mahakumbh Nagar was beaming with sadhus, saints, seers, yogis, seekers and bhakts from every part of the world. All for a holy dip as it is believed to be the holiest of places for bathing and spiritual cleansing.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for almost two months, an army of workers has been diligently channelling the rivers, widening roads, and levelling the ghats for this grand occasion, expecting it to be one of the worlds most magnificent occasions that the world has ever seen or experienced in the past. The entire state machinery in Uttar Pradesh worked dedicatedly at the sacred confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati river in Prayagraj on a war footing to make the event a smooth and convenient experience for devotees. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in one of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ speeches, “Maha Kumbh’s speciality lies not just in its vastness, but also in its diversity.” He described the mega event as “Maha Kumbh of unity”, and urged people to banish hate and division from society.

Maha Kumbh 2025 began on ‘Paush Poornima’ on January 13, and concluded on ‘Maha Shivratri’ after 45 days on February 26. In the span of the last 45 days, the event is believed to have drawn nearly a staggering 700 million (70 crore) devotees to the banks of Triveni Sangam, for a holy dip that can help them attain Moksha. 

The Maha Kumbh 2025 was the largest gathering of humanity anywhere in the world. A cultural and dharmik confluence, irrespective of caste, creed, community and class, deeply immersed in spirituality and devotion, Maha Kumbh ‌showcases the essence of Bharat and Sanatan Hindu culture and tradition that has been passed on from generation to generation for ages since a time unknown. 

Preparing for such a monumental event requires meticulous planning  and extensive masterminding. Spread across 4,000 hectares (40 square kilometres) along the river bank in Prayagraj, the authorities have made every effort to give the area a makeover that can accommodate a massive influx of devotees from every part of the world.

Artificial Intelligence, and most advanced technologies were used to implement safety measures to ensure smooth execution of every process. 

As the Maha Kumbh began, Prayagraj, transformed into a vast and vibrant canvas busy with activities was turning the Sangam into a temporary city. This momentous event drew millions to its ghats with the hope of cleansing one of all sins and pave the way to salvation. 

Beyond the spiritual aspect, the Maha Kumbh is also a celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage. Not just a religious gathering but also a reflection of India’s unity in diversity.
