Athens: Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday called for calm amid hundreds of earthquakes causing distress to residents of Santorini Island and its Aegean Sea neighbours, media reports said.
Thousands of locals are fleeing the picturesque island due to experts stating that the rolling tremors are not linked to volcanic activity, the reports said.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that quakes were continuing to occur a few minutes apart as of 7am on Tuesday (05:00 GMT), with the largest quake recorded at magnitude 5.1 on Monday afternoon, Al Jazeera reported.
