Houston: The number of people injured in the car-ramming attack in the US city of New Orleans has risen to 35, local police said on Wednesday.

The attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday, as the driver plowed his truck into a crowd of people celebrating New Year’s on New Orlean’s Bourbon Street and then started shooting on them. He was neutralized by the police.

The New Orleans Police Department initially said 10 people were killed in the attack and 26 others were injured, including two officers.

“Upon further investigation, a total of 10 victims were declared to be deceased on scene. At this time, approximately 35 additional victims were determined to have suffered injuries in relation to this incident,” the police said in a statement.

The FBI is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism, outgoing US President Joe Biden said, adding that he instructed his team to unlock every necessary resource for law enforcement work at federal, state and local level.

President-elect Donald Trump linked the attack with illegal migration, claiming that US crime rate is currently higher than ever.
