
New Delhi: The India Open 2025, one of the most anticipated events on the international badminton calendar, will commence at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall here from Tuesday.
While seasoned stars such as two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Paris 2024 Olympians Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Tanisha Crasto headline the competition, a number of rising Indian shuttlers will be looking to make their mark in the BWF Super 750 event.
The tournament, which follows the Malaysia Open, offers a golden opportunity for emerging talents to accumulate crucial ranking points.
The tournament will feature a host of emerging Indian badminton players eager to make their mark, including
19 year-old Anupama Upadhyaya, who has already earned titles at the Polish Open and Kazakhstan International Challenge.
Anupama, who defeated world No. 15 Beiwen Zhang at the China Masters, will face PV Sindhu in a thrilling first-round clash.
Additionally, in men’s doubles, 22-year-old Pruthvi K Roy will partner with K Sai Pratheek (24) for the first time. Both players are expected to be strong contenders after impressive performances in 2024, including Pruthvi’s national doubles title win and Pratheek’s contribution to India’s silver medal at the 2023 Asian Games.
In the women’s doubles category, the Rawat sisters from Uttarakhand, Mansa (17) and Gayatri (15), will aim to continue their rise after a successful year in 2024, which included titles at the Kampala International and Uganda International Series. The Gahlawat sisters, Apoorva (21) and Sakshi (22) from Haryana, will also look to carry their momentum from their role in Haryana’s historic senior inter-state team victory.
Meanwhile, Mrunmayee Deshpande (23) and Prerna Alvekar (21) will bring their effective left-right combination to the India Open after a strong semifinal finish at the Sri Lanka International Series.
Other rising stars include Tamil Nadu’s Sania Sikkandar (19), a bronze medallist at the 2022 Khelo India Youth Games, who will team up with Karnataka’s Rashmi Ganesh for their first India Open appearance.
In mixed doubles, Ashith Surya (29) and Amrutha Prathumesh (21) will represent India as a formidable pair, ranked No. 54 in the world. The duo, known for their successful performances in international tournaments, will aim to leave a lasting impression at the Super 750 event. These emerging talents are poised to make their mark on the global stage.
