Hyderabad: The operations of the newly constructed Jewar Airport or the Noida International Airport (NIA) project, is expected to start in April next year, said Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu here on Wednesday.

The airport went through very very successfully and all the construction works are also coming very close to the end of it, Naidu told reporters on the sidelines of launching of AI Powered Digital Twin at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here.

We are also looking to license it as soon as possible, he said that the people of NCR Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh can have access to an additional airport other than the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Because the city has grown and there is a lot of potential for having another airport, Jewar is a very strategic location, he said .

It is becoming very, very viable and initially, only they want to operate with 12 million capacity, he informed.

To a question, Naidu said “We are trying to bring in two legislative changes regarding the hoax calls that have happened recently – The aircraft security rules and another one SUASCA act.

We have already go ahead in this , he said the gazette is still pending and once the gazette happens, we are creating the legislation so that any perpetrator, anyone who is involved in these kind of things, will be put under ‘ no fly list’, he said this one amendment we are bringing to aircraft security rules.

While the second one, we are having a SUASCA act which deals with offenses related to civil aviation, he said we have proposed a small amendment to it and once we get in the feedback from all the ministries concerned, we are going to go ahead with the amendment, Naidu said .

We are trying to push it in the current session as it is a very important legislation, he added.
